A Ames patient books a real-time video visit with an Iowa-licensed provider through this platform. The provider evaluates the patient's medical history against Iowa's qualifying conditions. If a qualifying condition applies, the provider completes and signs the Healthcare Practitioner Certification Form. The patient then applies through the Iowa HHS patient registration portal, submitting the signed form, valid Iowa ID, and a digital photo, along with the $100 registration fee paid directly to Iowa HHS. Iowa HHS issues the Medical Cannabidiol Registration Card upon approval.
Ames patients should understand Iowa's program clearly: medical cannabidiol products are limited to oils, tinctures, capsules, and topicals. Smoking is prohibited under Iowa Code §124E.17.
